LASIK is a type of laser operation to the eye meant to improve troubles with eyesight. The operation is performed by ophthalmologists, who are medical physicians who specialize in disorders of the eye. LASIK is typically a preferred alternative to photorefractive keratectomy, or PRK, as it is not as painful and requires less time for healing. Before having LASIK surgery, the patient's corneas are evaluated with a computerized sophisticated scanner and a map of the cornea is created. Some of the more typically reported complications of LASIK include: infection, dry or light sensitive eyes, under or over correction, changing vision, rings around lights, doubled vision, and disorders with the flap created during the surgery. Although LASIK technology is improving rapidly, scientists have not ascertained long-term complications or damage. The surgical procedure can't be reversed.
