LASIK is a type of laser-guided eye surgery intended to correct difficulties with eyesight. It is carried out by ophthalmologists, who are mDs who specialize in eye problems. LASIK is generally preferable to pRK eye surgery, as it is much less painful and requires less time to recover completely. Prior to having LASIK eye surgery, the patient's corneas are evaluated with a computerized sophisticated scanning device and a corneal map is devised. This step of the procedure also detects astigmatism & other deviations in the cornea's shape. The eye surgeon uses this information to judge the location as well as the amount of corneal material to be eliminated during the operation. The operation is performed with the patient awake, still, the patient is usually given a modest sedating medication and anesthetic drops for the eyes. The surgeon operates the laser machines, which do all of the incisions. A flap is sliced in the cornea using a laser or a blade. Later, an excimer laser remodels the cornea. The laser destroys tissue without creating damage to the eye. Although usually uncommon, some complications could occur with LASIK or other laser or non laser eye surgeries. A number of the more frequently reported complications of LASIK can include: infection, dry eyes and light sensitive eyes, under or over correction, fluctuating vision, halos or starbursts around lights, doubled vision, and issues with the flap that was created during the surgery. Although LASIK technology is improving quickly, research studies have not characterized long-term or permanent complications. The eye surgery can't be reversed.
