LASIK is a type of laser eye operation intended to remedy disorders with eyesight. It is performed by ophthalmologists, who are physicians or MDs specializing in eye disorders & diseases. LASIK is generally a preferred alternative to pRK eye surgery, as it is less pain-producing and requires less time to recover. Before having LASIK surgery, the patient's corneas are evaluated with a computer driven sophisticated scanner and a corneal map is devised. This stage of the process also detects astigmatism & other peculiarities in the shape of the cornea. The operating surgeon uses this data to find out the location and amount of corneal tissue to be removed during the operation. The operation is done with the person awake, even so, the person is generally given a modest sedative and anesthetizing drops for the eyes. The surgeon operates the lasers, which do all of the incisions. A flap is cut in the cornea, which is the clear front part of the eye, using a blade or laser. Afterwards, an excimer laser remodels the cornea. The laser destroys tissue without creating damage. Although relatively uncommon, damaging complications may occur with LASIK or non laser forms of eye surgeries. A number of the more typically reported complications of LASIK typically include: infection, light sensitive or dry eyes, under or over correction, fluctuating vision, rings around lights, double vision, and disorders with the flap that was produced during the surgery. Although LASIK technology is improving rapidly, research has not completely determined long-term complications. The process can't be reversed.
