LASIK is a form of laser surgery to the eye meant to minimize or repair difficulties with sight. LASIK is performed by ophthalmologists, who are medical doctors specializing in eye disorders and diseases. LASIK is ordinarily preferred to pRK eye surgery, as it is less painful and requires less time to heal completely. Before having LASIK eye surgery, the patient's corneas are examined with a computer driven sophisticated scanning device and a map of the cornea is made. The surgeon uses this information to find out the location and amount of corneal tissue to be removed during the operation. The operation is performed while the patient is awake, even so, the person is usually given a modest sedative and anesthetizing eye drops. The surgeon operates the laser machines, which produce all of the incisions. A flap is cut in the cornea using a blade or a laser. And then, an excimer laser is used to remodel the cornea. The laser vaporizes tissue without causing injury or damage. Although relatively uncommon, complications or damage might occur with LASIK or other laser or non laser eye surgeries. A number of the more frequently reported complications of LASIK include: infection, light sensitive and dry eyes, under or over correction, changes in vision, rings around lights, doubled vision, and issues with the flap that was produced during the surgery. Although LASIK technology is improving very rapidly, scientists have not defined long-term or permanent damage. The eye surgery cannot be reversed.
