LASIK is a form of laser operation to the eye designed to cure or improve difficulties with vision. The operation is carried out by ophthalmologists, who are medical physicians who specialize in eye problems. LASIK is commonly preferred to pRK eye surgery, as it is less pain-producing and requires less time to recover completely. Prior to LASIK eye surgery, the patient's corneas are analyzed with a computerized sophisticated scanning device and a corneal map is created. This step of the process also discovers astigmatism & additional peculiarities in the cornea's shape. The operating surgeon uses this data to calculate the location as well as the amount of corneal material to be eliminated during the surgery. The surgery is carried out while the person is awake, however, the person is generally given a minor sedating drug and anesthetic drops for the eyes. The eye surgeon operates the laser machines, which do all of the cutting. A flap is carved in the cornea, which is the clear front part of the eye, using a blade or a laser. And then, an excimer laser is used to remodel the cornea. The laser vaporizes tissue without creating injury to the eye. Although relatively uncommon, some complications may occur with LASIK or any form of eye surgeries. A number of the more typically reported complications of LASIK are: infection, light sensitive or dry eyes, under or over correction, changing vision, halos or starbursts around lights, double vision, and difficulties with the flap created during the surgical procedure. Although LASIK technology is getting better rapidly, research studies have not completely defined long-term complicating problems. The lASIK procedure cannot be reversed.
