LASIK is a type of laser surgery to the eye intended to remedy issues with eyesight. The surgery is carried out by ophthalmologists, who are physicians or MDs who specialize in eye disorders and diseases. The surgeon operates the laser machines, which make all of the incisions. A flap is sliced in the cornea, which is the clear front part of the eye, using a blade or laser. And then, an excimer laser remodels the cornea. The laser vaporizes tissue without inducing damage or injury. Although usually uncommon, complications may occur with LASIK or any method of eye surgeries. A number of the more regularly reported complications of LASIK typically include: infection, light sensitive and dry eyes, over or under correction, changes in vision, rings around lights, doubled vision, and issues with the flap that was made during the surgical procedure. Although LASIK technology is improving quickly, studies have not proven long-term complicating problems. The eye surgery cannot be reversed.
