LASIK is a type of laser-guided operation to the eye intended to minimize or repair issues with eyesight. It is carried out by ophthalmologists, who are medical doctors specializing in eye disorders and diseases. LASIK is ordinarily preferred to pRK eye surgery, as it is less painful and requires less time for fulll healing. Prior to having LASIK surgery, the patient's corneas are analyzed with a computer driven sophisticated scanning device and it makes a map of the cornea. This procedure also picks up astigmatism or additional peculiarities in the cornea's shape. The surgeon uses this information to calculate the amount and location of corneal tissue to be eliminated during the operation. The operation is performed with the patient awake and functional, even so, the patient is typically given a minor sedating medication and anesthetizing drops in the eyes. The surgeon operates the lasers, which create all of the incisions. A flap is cut in the cornea, which is the clear front part of the eye, using a blade or laser. Afterwards, an excimer laser remodels the cornea. The laser vaporizes tissue without creating damage or injury. Although relatively uncommon, damaging complications do occur with LASIK or any form of eye surgeries. A few of of the more frequently reported complications of LASIK are: infection, dry or light sensitive eyes, over or under correction, changing vision, halos or starbursts around lights, doubled vision, and problems with the flap made during the surgery. Although LASIK technology is getting better quickly, clinical studies have not completely defined long-term complicating problems. The eye surgery cannot be reversed.
