LASIK is a form of laser eye operation which is intended to rectify issues with sight. The surgical procedure is carried out by ophthalmologists, who are physicians or MDs specializing in eye disorders and diseases. LASIK is generally preferable to photorefractive keratectomy (PRK), as it is less pain-producing and requires less time for full recovery. Prior to LASIK surgery, the patient's corneas are evaluated with a computerized sophisticated scanner and a corneal map is created. This procedure also discovers astigmatism as well as additional deviations in the cornea's shape. The operating surgeon uses this information to find out the amount as well as location of corneal tissue to be eliminated during the surgery. The operation is done with the patient awake, even so, the patient is often given a minor sedating agent and anesthetizing drops for the eyes. The surgeon operates the lasers, which create all of the incisions. A flap is carved in the cornea, which is the clear front part of the eye, using a blade or a laser. Later, an excimer laser remodels the cornea. The laser destroys tissue without inducing damage or injury. Although usually uncommon, some complications do occur with LASIK or any type of eye surgeries. A number of the more frequently reported complications of LASIK are: infection, light sensitive and dry eyes, over or under correction, fluctuating vision, rings around lights, doubled vision, and problems with the flap that was made during the surgery. Although LASIK technology is improving very rapidly, clinical studies have not characterized long-term damaging complications. The lASIK procedure can't be reversed.
