LASIK is a form of laser operation to the eye intended to improve or correct problems with sight. The surgical procedure is carried out by ophthalmologists, who are medical physicians specializing in disorders of the eye. LASIK is usually preferred to pRK surgery, as it is much less painful and requires less time to recover. Prior to having LASIK eye surgery, the patient's corneas are examined with a computerized sophisticated scanner and it makes a map of the cornea. This stage of the process also spots astigmatism as well as additional deviations in the cornea's shape. The operating surgeon uses this data to determine the amount and location of corneal material to be removed during the operation. The operation is done while the person is awake and functional, all the same, the patient is generally given a mild sedating medication and anesthetizing drops in the eyes. The surgeon operates the lasers, which make all of the incisions. A flap is carved in the cornea, which is the clear front part of the eye, using a laser or a blade. And then, an excimer laser is used to remodel the cornea. The laser destroys tissue without causing damage. Although usually uncommon, damaging complications might occur with LASIK or non laser forms of eye surgeries. Just some of the more typically reported complications of LASIK can include: infection, dry eyes and light sensitive eyes, under or over correction, changes in vision, rings around lights, doubled vision, and troubles with the flap made during the operation. Although LASIK technology is improving very rapidly, studies have not ascertained long-term complications. The surgical procedure can't be reversed.
