LASIK is a type of laser-guided eye surgery designed to improve troubles with sight. The operation is carried out by ophthalmologists, who are medical doctors specializing in eye problems. LASIK is generally preferable to pRK eye surgery, as it is less painful and requires less time to recover completely. Before having LASIK eye surgery, the patient's corneas are analyzed with a computer controlled scanner and it creates a map of the cornea. This stage of the process also discovers astigmatism & other peculiarities in the cornea's shape. The operating surgeon uses this information to calculate the amount and location of corneal material to be eliminated during the operation. The surgery is carried out while the patient is awake, however, the person is often given a modest sedating medication and anesthetic drops for the eyes. The surgeon operates the laser machines, which do all of the cutting. A flap is carved in the cornea, which is the clear front part of the eye, using a laser or blade. And then, an excimer laser remodels the cornea. The laser destroys tissue without causing damage. Although relatively uncommon, some complications may occur with LASIK or any form of eye surgeries. A number of the more commonly reported complications of LASIK include: infection, light sensitive or dry eyes, under or over correction, changing vision, halos or starbursts around lights, doubled vision, and difficulties with the flap that was produced during the surgical procedure. Although LASIK technology is getting better rapidly, clinical studies have not determined long-term or permanent damage. The surgical procedure cannot be reversed.
