LASIK is a form of laser eye operation meant to repair disorders with sight. The operation is carried out by ophthalmologists, who are physicians who specialize in eye disorders. LASIK is ordinarily preferred to pRK surgery, as it is not as painful and requires less time for healing. Prior to LASIK eye surgery, the patient's corneas are evaluated with a computerized scanner and a map of the cornea is created. This process also detects astigmatism and also additional irregularities in the cornea's shape. The eye surgeon uses this data to judge the location and amount of corneal tissue to be removed during the operation. The surgery is carried out while the person is awake and functional, even so, the patient is usually given a modest sedating agent and anesthetic eye drops. The eye surgeon operates the lasers, which do all of the cutting. A flap is sliced in the cornea using a laser or blade. Subsequently, an excimer laser is used to remodel the cornea. The laser vaporizes tissue without causing injury or damage. Although relatively uncommon, some complications do occur with LASIK or any method of eye surgeries. Just some of the more regularly reported complications of LASIK typically include: infection, light sensitive or dry eyes, under or over correction, changes in vision, rings around lights, doubled vision, and problems with the flap that was made during the operation. Although LASIK technology is getting better quickly, studies have not determined long-term complications. The surgery cannot be reversed.
