LASIK is a type of laser eye operation designed to correct or at least minimize issues with sight. The operation is performed by ophthalmologists, who are mDs specializing in eye disorders and diseases. LASIK is usually a preferred alternative to pRK eye surgery, as it is not as painful and requires less time to heal completely. Prior to having LASIK eye surgery, the patient's corneas are evaluated with a computer driven sophisticated scanner and it makes a map of the cornea. This step of the procedure also picks up astigmatism & other peculiarities in the cornea's shape. The eye surgeon uses this information to determine the location and amount of corneal material to be eliminated during the surgery. The surgery is done while the person is awake and alert, all the same, the person is generally given a modest sedating medication and anesthetic drops in the eyes. The surgeon operates the lasers, which do all of the incisions. A flap is sliced in the cornea using a laser or a blade. Afterwards, an excimer laser is used to remodel the cornea. The laser vaporizes tissue without creating injury or damage. Although usually uncommon, damaging complications might occur with LASIK or any type of eye surgeries. A number of the more frequently reported complications of LASIK include: infection, light sensitive or dry eyes, under or over correction, fluctuating vision, halos or starbursts around lights, doubled vision, and disorders with the flap made during the surgical procedure. Although LASIK technology is getting better quickly, scientists have not ascertained long-term or permanent complications. The procedure cannot be reversed.
