LASIK is a form of laser surgery to the eye meant to remedy difficulties with vision. LASIK is performed by ophthalmologists, who are mDs specializing in eye disorders. LASIK is ordinarily preferable to pRK surgery, as it is less pain-producing and requires less time to recover completely. Prior to LASIK surgery, the patient's corneas are evaluated with a computer driven sophisticated scanning device and it makes a map of the cornea. This step of the process also discovers astigmatism or additional problems in the cornea's shape. The operating surgeon uses this data to compute the amount and location of corneal tissue to be removed during the operation. The surgery is carried out while the patient is awake and functional, still, the person is generally given a modest sedating medication and anesthetizing eye drops. The operating surgeon operates the laser machines, which produce all of the cutting. A flap is sliced in the cornea using a blade or laser. And then, an excimer laser is used to remodel the cornea. The laser vaporizes tissue without inducing injury to the eye. Although usually uncommon, complicating problems could occur with LASIK or any type of eye surgeries. A few of of the more regularly reported complications of LASIK can include: infection, dry eyes and light sensitive eyes, under or over correction, changes in vision, halos or starbursts around lights, double vision, and troubles with the flap that was created during the surgical procedure. Although LASIK technology is improving rapidly, research studies have not completely defined long-term or permanent complications. The surgery cannot be reversed.
