LASIK is a form of laser-guided operation to the eye intended to fix troubles with vision. It is carried out by ophthalmologists, who are mDs who specialize in eye disorders. LASIK is typically a preferred alternative to pRK eye surgery, as it is not as painful and requires less time to recover completely. Before having LASIK surgery, the patient's corneas are analyzed with a computer driven sophisticated scanner and a corneal map is created. This step of the process also detects astigmatism and also other peculiarities in the cornea's shape. The operating surgeon uses this data to find out the location as well as the amount of corneal tissue to be eliminated during the operation. The surgery is carried out with the person awake and alert, but, the patient is typically given a modest sedating agent and anesthetic eye drops. A number of the more regularly reported complications of LASIK typically include: infection, light sensitive or dry eyes, under or over correction, fluctuations in vision, rings around lights, double vision, and difficulties with the flap that was created during the surgical procedure. Although LASIK technology is improving very rapidly, studies have not determined long-term damaging complications. The eye surgery cannot be reversed.
